CCTV Trouble Shooting Tips

Three Basic Steps when Trouble Shooting:

1. Check power 12vdc or 24vac, At the camera and at the source(all A.D.S. power supplies are mounted on the wall near the DVR's, Other companies have the power supplies above the drop ceiling in the Mgr. office)

2. Check BNC connections from the wire to the camera and also the BNC connection at the DVR.

3. If the camera has good power and cable connections, chances are high that the camera is bad. Although we have come across situations where we found the cable has been cut or crushed (very rare).

Additional Trouble Shooting Tips:

Check the DVR input by taking a known good camera wire from the lead and swapping it with the lead going to the camera that is out. i.e.: camera #2 is out, camera #7 is good. Take the #7 wire and switch it with #2.

In some cases you may be able to re-set the power supplies in the Mgr. Office. The 12vdc power supplies are low voltage power supplies usually tan or grey in color, about 1 ft. high mounted on the wall or above the drop ceiling. Open the door to the power supply box you will see small black slide switch on the board inside the box and also on the board mounted on the door. Simply turn the switch off for about 10 seconds then turn it back on. This will drain any stray voltage in the lines and also in the camera circuits.

The PTZ power supply boxes, 24vac, are located in the same areas as the 12vdc, these boxes are usually black, and when you open the door there is actually a switch for on/off. After the power is cycled for the PTZ's the cameras go through a power-up and configure mode. After this is complete you should be able to control the PTZ's.

Terms:

Fixed - Cameras that are stationary dome cameras focused in on one specific area in one direction.

Mini-dome - Cameras that are fixed cameras usually 12volts dc.

C-Mount or Box Cameras - Are fixed and look like a box with a lens, voltage can vary between 12vdc or 24vac.

IR (Infrared) - Are cameras that are fixed, but have LED's inside of the housing which illuminate an area with-in 30'. They can hold up to the elements outside and are weather proof. These cameras are usually found outside exterior DSD and Pharmacy drive up windows. The voltage is 12vdc.

PTZ (Pan, Tilt, Zoom) - Are cameras that are capable of rotating 360 degrees and can pan up & down and zoom in or out. These can be either interior or exterior, mounted on a pendant or flush in the drop ceiling. The voltage is 24vac.

Power Supply - Supplies the power to the cameras. Can be either 12vdc or 24vac
